Substation BIM Model – Context

A substation upgrade project introduced new indoor equipment and supporting auxiliary systems, which in turn required multi-discipline coordination and IFC documentation.

Role

BIM Coordinator + Modeller.

Work

Built and standardised families (Revit + AutoCAD), modelled in Revit, set up geolocation and federation, prepared deliverables planning, coordinated with a supporting modeller, and validated model exchange via Navisworks testing and ProjectWise federation.

Deliverables

Federated models, BEP, and ~40 detailed construction drawings (IFC).

Numbers

~2 months • team of 2 • ~40 drawings.

Outcome

Established a practical BIM modelling workflow with reusability after previous attempts had been costly and delivered limited long-term value.
